Keep MetaTrader 4 terminals independent of your workstation
An MT4 VPS provides a remote Windows environment for the MetaTrader 4 client terminal. It is useful when charts, Expert Advisors or copy trading tools need to continue running after you close your local computer. This is terminal hosting; it does not provide the broker-side MetaTrader server or a platform licence.
Each intended terminal, broker connection and strategy should be included in the deployment plan. Different indicators and EAs can create very different CPU and memory demands, even when the number of terminals is the same.
Separate terminal instances and test automation
Keep each terminal instance, its data and its credentials organised so that changes to one setup do not unintentionally affect another. Review EA permissions, dependencies and any third-party licence restrictions before moving files to the server.
Check the broker login, account mode, chart settings and automation permissions after installation. Where a demo environment is available, use it for the initial functional check. The Expert Advisor VPS guide covers monitoring and restart considerations in more detail.
Plan the connection and the move
Choose a location by testing the route to your specific broker endpoint. A low ping measurement is only one part of order handling; broker systems, market conditions and strategy behaviour remain relevant.
Before a cutover, back up the terminal configuration and decide when to stop the original instance. Starting two copies of the same trading automation can create duplicate actions. For broker platform components rather than client terminals, see MT4 server infrastructure.
What to include in your request
- Broker server name and number of MT4 terminal instances.
- EA and indicator dependencies, including external libraries where used.
- Representative CPU and memory use during active trading.
- Remote access requirements, backup needs and cutover timing.
Questions about MT4 VPS Hosting for Trading and Expert Advisors
Is an MT4 VPS the same as an MT4 trading server?
No. A VPS for MT4 terminals runs client applications. A broker-side trading server is a separate licensed platform deployment with different access, architecture and operational requirements.
Will my EA start automatically after a server restart?
This depends on the Windows session, startup configuration and terminal settings. Automatic recovery must be configured and tested for the actual application rather than assumed from the VPS alone.
Can I host MT4 and MT5 on one environment?
A shared environment can be considered if software requirements and resources permit it. Keep the two platforms and their data organised, then test the combined workload before production use.
