Infrastructure for Prop Trading Firms

Build a scalable technology foundation for evaluations, trader accounts, MetaTrader workloads and internal tools.

Key planning points

✦

High account volumes

Plan infrastructure for growing trader populations.

✦

Platform workloads

MT4/MT5 and supporting service hosting.

✦

Scaling strategy

Move from VPS to dedicated clusters as demand grows.

Connect trading activity with evaluation operations

A prop trading operation may depend on trading platforms, evaluation rules, trader dashboards and administrative systems. Infrastructure planning starts by distinguishing these functions and identifying the system that is authoritative for each data item.

The architecture should reflect the actual programme and the selected software. Account provisioning, evaluation calculation and reporting can have different availability and resource needs, even when they are part of the same customer journey.

Design integration and workload boundaries

Document how account events reach evaluation tools and dashboards, how retries are handled, and which team resolves an inconsistency. Reporting or batch processing should not consume resources needed by more time-sensitive services without a capacity assessment.

Platform-side deployments can be planned using the MT5 infrastructure guide or the applicable vendor requirements. A broader broker technology stack may be relevant when CRM, portals or external connectivity are also in scope.

Prepare for enrolment peaks and recovery

Share expected concurrent activity and the timing of account creation, evaluation processing and reporting. Capacity planning should include spikes rather than only monthly totals. Confirm backup and restoration needs for the operational systems as well as the trading environment.

Before launch, agree an acceptance checklist covering account state, data synchronisation, administrator access and failure handling. Hosting does not itself supply evaluation rules, customer agreements or a platform licence; these must be established within the project scope.

What to include in your request

  • Selected platform, evaluation software and dashboard components.
  • Expected concurrent accounts, enrolment peaks and batch workloads.
  • Integration events, authoritative data sources and support ownership.
  • Recovery requirements and the tests needed before programme launch.

Questions about Prop Trading Infrastructure and Server Hosting

Does the infrastructure include challenge or evaluation software?

Only software and integration work explicitly included in the proposal forms part of the delivery. Hosting capacity and evaluation application functionality are separate scope items.

Can trading and evaluation systems use different servers?

Yes, separation can be considered where it improves resource allocation or operational boundaries. The integration and recovery behaviour must still be tested across the systems.

How is growth planned for a prop operation?

Use concurrent activity, account creation rates, reporting demand and measured application use. Review capacity and bottlenecks as the programme changes rather than relying only on total registered accounts.
